The University of Ilorin has inaugurated its University Advancement Board as part of its strategic efforts to accelerate institutional development through private sector-driven approaches.
The board, chaired by Dr. Abdulwahab A. Ibrahim, a distinguished financial expert, comprises the university’s three deputy vice-chancellors, the bursar, internal auditor, as well as members of the Senate, Convocation, and Congregation. The Director of Advancement will also serve on the board, while the registrar of the university will act as secretary.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole SAN, highlighted that the board’s primary mission is to provide strategic guidance, generate innovative ideas, and establish critical networks to advance the university’s growth. He noted that the board will spearhead resource mobilisation campaigns, foster fundraising strategies, and strengthen the university’s partnerships with donors, corporate sponsors, and alumni.
“This initiative marks a significant milestone as Unilorin celebrates its golden anniversary in 2025,” the Vice-Chancellor remarked. He further emphasized the board’s commitment to elevating the university’s visibility on national and international platforms while driving priorities in infrastructure development, academic excellence, and community impact.
The Positive Voice also learned that the selection process for board members was carefully designed to prioritize values such as integrity, excellence, and commitment. External members, drawn from the alumni community, were deliberately chosen to demonstrate the institution’s capability to deliver impactful results.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Abdulwahab Ibrahim expressed his pride in serving the university in this capacity. “I was one of the pioneer lecturers in the Accounting and Finance department, and this institution gave me my first career opportunity. I am deeply honoured to give back to Unilorin and contribute to its legacy of excellence,” he stated.
Dr. Ibrahim assured the university community that the board would work diligently to achieve its objectives, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and dedication.
The Vice-Chancellor also called on the Alumni Association to actively support the board’s initiatives. He stressed that alumni should focus on contributing to the university’s growth rather than creating divisions or pursuing personal gains.
