This was disclosed at the exit brief meeting by the team leader and representative of the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Prof Mohammad Idris Bugaji and the Director of Programmes, NBTE, Arch. Ngbegede Ogoh who noted that the Polytechnic had suffered major setbacks in its bid to secure full accreditation of programmes due to indifference in resource management in the past.
According to Arch Ogoh, similar institutions had secured accreditation, leading to award of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma certificates, and expressed satisfaction that the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, had satisfied the requirements for five (5) National Diploma programmes.
The Team Leader counselled the management of the Polytechnic to use comparative advantage to venture into courses centered around the domain of oil and gas.
The NBTE Accreditation Team expressed satisfaction with the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Mr Job Anyebe who in only three months of assumption of office was able to provide assurances of compliance with the requirements for approval of five (5) programmes by the Institution.
The Accreditation Team also advised the management of the Polytechnic to focus on practical coverage enhancement of programmes, staffing, improved facilities and the need for regular staff promotion to boost productivity.
The Acting Rector expressed gratitude to the team for joining him on the mission to elevate the Polytechnic to new heights, notwithstanding funding challenges.
The high point of the Board's visit was the presentation of the accreditation report to the Acting Rector.
Programmes marked for approval include; Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Industrial Safety and Environmental Engineering Technology, Petroleum Marketing, Mathematics and Statistics.
