JEMILA ABUBAKAR MEMORIAL ESSAY COMPETITION FOR STUDENTS IN NIGERIA TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS

Dedicated to commemorating the legacy of the late Miss Jemila Abubakar, the pioneering program manager of the Asido Foundation, who left us after a brief illness in July 2020, the Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay Competition 2024 is now open.

This year, the competition is open to undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, monotechnics, and schools of nursing. The competition focuses on exploring critical mental health issues, and the theme for the 4th edition is "Digital Mental Health Tools for Students."

Prizes Await!

Generous rewards are offered to the winners of the Jemila Abubakar Memorial Essay Competition 2024:

1st Place: ₦200,000

2nd Place: ₦150,000

3rd Place: ₦100,000

Additionally, the top 15 entries will gain invaluable insights and guidance through the mentorship program.

Eligibility Criteria

To participate, students must meet the following criteria:

1. Be an undergraduate student at any Nigerian tertiary institution (universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, monotechnics, or schools of nursing).

2. Provide proof of current studentship.

3. Sign the Asido Foundation's "Unashamed pledge."

Essay Guidelines

Students are encouraged to craft thoughtful essays with a word count ranging from a minimum of 750 words to a maximum of 1500 words. When submitting entries, they should follow these steps:

2. Attach a scanned copy of a recent passport photograph.

3. Include evidence of current studentship.

4. Upload a signed "Unashamed pledge."

In recognition of their talent and dedication, the top 15 winners will receive certificates and be welcomed into the JAME 2024 Fellowship program.
