FREELY JOIN NON-VIOLENT #ENDBADGOVERNANCE PROTEST, IT'S FOR YOUR BENEFIT –SOWORE TELLS NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES, POLYTECHNICS, OTHERS

Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and Convener of the #RevolutionNow Movement, has issued a call to action to all Nigerian institutions of higher learning, including universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education, and specialized private and public institutions.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, Sowore urged these institutions to join the planned nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest, emphasising that the non-violent #DaysOfRage demonstration is for the benefit of the institutions and the country as a whole.

As a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Sowore stressed that the institutions' participation is crucial for the future of Nigeria and, by extension, the African continent.

Sowore wrote, “We urge University, Polytechnic/Monotechnic, Colleges of Education, Professional and Specialized educational (Private and Public) institutions in Nigeria and beyond to freely join the non-violent #EndBadGovernace #DaysOfRage revolt from their respective campuses for the duration of the struggle. 

“It is about you and your country; join the fight for the soul of Nigeria and by extension, the soul of the continent of Africa. Hasta la victoria siempre!”

The planned nationwide protest against hardship and hunger in Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu's government tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria has been scheduled to hold from August 1-10.

Meanwhile, a coalition of different groups has come together to endorse the anticipated August 1-10 #EndBadGovernance protests, scheduled to hold nationwide.

In a press statement signed by Joint Action Front (JAF), Education Rights Campaign (ERC), PRP Vanguard, Yoruba Revolutionary Movement (YOREM), Amilcar Cabral Ideological School Movement (ACIS-M), Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), Movement for African Emancipation (MAE), Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights (CDWR), the groups said they wholeheartedly support the protest.

A statement signed by the eight groups that formed the coalition said, “The June 12 protest coalition met to discuss the August protest against hunger and hardship and what needs to be done.”

The group noted that it was agreed that there should be protests against hunger.

It said, “That we wholeheartedly support the planned August 1-10 nationwide protest against hunger and hardship as it shows that following our protest on June 12, many suffering Nigerian youth and working masses are now ready to resist the anti-poor capitalist policies of the Tinubu administration.

“To this extent, this coalition will change its WhatsApp group name to reflect the new phase of our struggle.”
