UNIBEN FACULTY OF VETERINARY MEDICINE SHUTS DOWN OVER FAILURE TO MEET STANDARDS

The Veterinary Council of Nigeria has officially shut down the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Benin, Edo State, due to the institution’s failure to meet the required standards for running Veterinary Medicine programs.

This was confirmed by Dr. Aishatu Abubaka-Baju, the President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria and a serving Assistant Inspector General of Police. She made the announcement during an interview with The PUNCH on the sidelines of the 60th Annual Congress of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, held in Jos, Plateau State.

Dr. Abubaka-Baju stated, “We have just returned from the University of Benin, along with other universities. We have shut down the Veterinary Medicine program at the University of Benin due to non-compliance with required standards, meaning it can no longer admit students. Meanwhile, the University of Abuja has been granted interim accreditation, and the council will reassess the in two years."
