REPS ADVOCATE FOR ENHANCED NYSC FUNDING TO EMPOWER YOUTH SERVICE

The House of Representatives is gearing up to deliberate on a proposed bill aimed at providing a sustainable funding mechanism for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

Reps advocate for enhanced NYSC funding to empower youth service

Titled "The NYSC Trust Fund (Establishment) Bill 2024," the legislation seeks to establish a dedicated Trust Fund for financing skills acquisition, training, and empowerment programs for corps members, as well as enhancing NYSC operations and facilities.

Sponsored by the lawmaker representing Nasarawa/Toro Federal Constituency, the bill proposes that the fund be sourced from 0.2% of the Consolidated Revenue Fund, federal grants, private sector donations, and international aid, among others.

The fund will be managed by a Board of Trustees tasked with overseeing its application for projects such as corps member training, NYSC ventures, and upgrading orientation camps and facilities.

If passed, the bill promises to transform the NYSC into a more efficient, impactful, and development-driven institution.
