UNILAG DEFEATS UNILORIN AND OTHERS, EMERGE CHAMPION OF CFA SOCIETY NIGERIA CHALLENGE


The University of Lagos (UNILAG) emerged victorious in the 2024 Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society Nigeria Ethics Challenge, securing first place. Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun State, and Covenant University (CU), Ogun State, clinched second and third positions, respectively.

This prestigious annual competition, sponsored by First Bank of Nigeria, saw a record-breaking participation of 28 universities nationwide, with eight finalists vying for the top honors at the Lagos grand finale. The finalist schools included:

– University of Lagos (UNILAG)

– Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)

– Covenant University (CU)

– Madonna University

– Lagos State University (LASU)

– University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)

– University of Ibadan (UI)

– Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO)

The CFA Society Nigeria President, Ibukun Oyedeji, shared the competition’s objectives, highlighting its focus on ethical decision-making in the financial sector. Students tackled real-world cases laden with ethical dilemmas, applied the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct, and presented their solutions to a panel of judges.

“The Ethics Challenge equips students with practical experience, ethical principles, and opportunities to connect with top industry professionals.”

Established seven years ago, the initiative aims to foster a culture of integrity among future financial professionals, ensuring they possess the moral compass needed for sound decision-making in their careers.

Yemi Ajagun, Deputy Director of CFA Society Nigeria, emphasized bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and workplace realities:

“While Nigerian students are highly intelligent, this competition provides the practical exposure needed for professional success.” said Oyedeji’

Speaking on the bank’s support, Sheyi Shetan, Group Head of Financial Institutions at First Bank, remarked:

“Our 130-year legacy of upholding ethical standards inspires us to nurture the next generation of ethical leaders.”

The Ethics Challenge remains a critical platform for fostering collaboration between universities and the financial industry, preparing students for impactful careers grounded in ethics and integrity.
