FUOYE VICE-CHANCELLOR FACES HARASSMENT PROBE AS GOVERNING COUNCIL LAUNCHES INVESTIGATION

In response to allegations of sexual harassment against its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has constituted a nine-member committee to investigate the matter.

Eniola Educational Consultant News Outlet uncovered that the allegations were made by Engr. Mrs. Folasade Adebayo, a Deputy Director of Works at the university. Viral audio recordings, which surfaced online and were shared by investigative platforms Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) detailed claims of inappropriate advances allegedly made by the Vice-Chancellor.

According to a statement released by the university’s Registrar, Mufutau A. Ibrahim, the committee has been tasked with uncovering the facts and reporting back to the Governing Council within three weeks. Their terms of reference include:
– Investigating the origin and purpose of the audio recordings.
– Examining how the recordings gained traction on social media.
– Reviewing allegations of misconduct and irregularities in appointments.
– Reassessing prior efforts to resolve the claims, including police investigations.

We gathered that an emergency meeting was held on January 24, 2025, where the Council decided to launch a thorough investigation. The Vice-Chancellor was excused from the meeting to allow for unbiased deliberations.

Speaking on the development, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to transparency and fairness. “The committee will hear from all parties involved and consider previous actions taken. We are determined to ensure justice without prejudice,” he said.

The Council has appealed for calm within the university community, emphasizing that no individual will be shielded from scrutiny. “We are dedicated to addressing this matter decisively and upholding the institution’s integrity,” the Registrar added.
