In compliance with the directive of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Management of Kwara State Polytechnic has announced the unbundling of Higher National Diploma Mass Communication and Computer Science, two popular programmes previously offered as a combined course in polytechnics and monotechnics nationwide.
The decision which is aimed at enhancing the quality and relevance of technical education, will take effect from the 2024/2025 academic session.
Speaking on the new development, the Rector, Engr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed disclosed that the need to meet the demands of the global information, communication and technology industry as well as producing diplomates with knowledge and skills in specific areas of national needs necessitated the unbundling of the two programmes.
He added that the unbundling will also allow students to dive deeper into their chosen field and develop the specialized skills employers are looking for.
Abdul however disclosed that with this development, Mass Communication and Computer Science as a programme ceased to exist at Higher National Diploma ((HND) level.
In a related development, the Rector has approved the appointment of new heads for the new programmes that spring up from Mass Communication and Computer Science.
Mr. Yissa Idris Olohuntoyin is the Head, Journalism and Media Studies, Mr. Opaleke Enoch Abimbola, Strategic Communication and Media Studies, Dr. (Mrs) Dada O. M., Networking and Cloud Computing while Mr. Olajide Anthony Taiwo will head Software and Web Development.
Meanwhile, Mr Fatiu Olohungbebe and Mr Oluwafemi Oyedepo remain the Head of Mass Communication and Computer Science departments respectively at National Diploma (ND) level; as well as the last HND 2 of the two department
The Rector has assured that all necessary resources and support will be provided to the new departments to ensure effective implementation of the new programmes
