NYSC WITHDRAWS CORP MEMBERS FROM ILORIN SCHOOL

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has withdrawn all corps members serving at Government Day Secondary School, Kulende, in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. This action follows allegations of assault on a female corps member by some teachers at the school.

Reports indicate that about 10 corps members, serving in both the junior and senior sections of the school, were withdrawn on Monday by the NYSC state directorate. The move was prompted by claims that the female corps member was attacked after being accused of failing to greet some teachers.

During his visit to the school on Monday, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Y. D. Ahmed, addressed the issue and ordered the temporary withdrawal of all corps members. He later proceeded to Yikpata in Edu Local Government Area to inspect the 2024 Batch C, Stream 2, orientation course.

NYSC Confirms Withdrawal Pending Investigation

Speaking on the matter, the Public Relations Officer of NYSC in Kwara State, Oladipo Morakinyo, confirmed the incident on Tuesday.

“Yes, it is true that all the NYSC members serving in the school have been withdrawn temporarily, pending the outcome of the investigation by the government’s panel on the alleged assault. Although the incident involved a corps member in the junior school, all corps members from the senior school were also withdrawn for their protection.”

Allegations of Assault :

According to reports, the female corps member, whose identity has been withheld, had visited the school on Thursday to collect her clearance letter. She was allegedly assaulted by a teacher who accused her of not greeting properly. Witnesses claim that the teacher tore her NYSC white T-shirt and was joined by another teacher who reportedly slapped her.

The incident has sparked outrage, with many condemning the attack as unprofessional and unjust.

Government’s Response:

In reaction to the incident, the Kwara State government has set up an investigative panel to address the allegations. The state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, condemned the assault, describing it as unacceptable.

“The state government will not tolerate any act of violence or misconduct in our schools. We are committed to ensuring justice for all parties involved,” Modibbo-Kawu said.

The situation remains under investigation, and the NYSC has assured corps members and their families of their safety. Stay updated with “ENIOLA EDUCATIONAL CONSULTANCY” for more details as the story unfolds.
