In a significant move for the development of Southern Kaduna, President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the establishment of a federal university in the region. The announcement was made by Vice President Kashim Shettima during a condolence visit to the Kukah family on the passing of His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, and a relative of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto.
Shettima, alongside Senator Katung and a member of the House of Representatives, conveyed the message from President Tinubu. He stated, “We have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna.” Additionally, discussions are ongoing about setting up a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
During his visit to the Ikulu Kingdom in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Shettima emphasized the commitment of the Tinubu administration to the region’s development, pointing to the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of the government’s attention to Southern Kaduna’s security needs.
Shettima further assured the people of Kaduna and Southern Kaduna that President Tinubu has their welfare at heart. He commended Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive governance and pledged that the federal government would collaborate with the state government to improve infrastructure, particularly road networks, in the region.
Bishop Kukah expressed gratitude for the Vice President’s visit, thanking him for his support during the family’s time of mourning. He also pointed out the challenging road conditions, acknowledging the efforts of the Vice President to reach the area despite the poor infrastructure.
