KOGI STATE POLYTECHNIC MATRICULATES OVER 6,500 STUDENTS AT 32ND MATRICULATION CEREMONY

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, on Saturday held its 32nd matriculation ceremony, officially welcoming 6,549 students into the institution for the 2024/2025 academic session. The event, which took place at the Lokoja campus, saw the Rector, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, congratulating the new students while delivering a stern warning against indulging in social vices.

Professor Ogbo revealed that the admitted students include 3,708 for the National Diploma (ND) and 2,841 for the Higher National Diploma (HND), covering eight schools and 57 diverse programs.

He reminded the students that the Polytechnic has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, cybercrimes, and other social vices. “Any breach of these rules will attract severe penalties, including outright expulsion and possible prosecution,” he warned.

The Rector emphasized the importance of abiding by the Polytechnic’s regulations as detailed in the Students’ Information Handbook, which will soon be distributed. He also underscored the need for students to carry their identification cards at all times for security purposes.

Addressing the institution’s recent achievements, Professor Ogbo highlighted the success of the December 2024 National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation exercise. Out of the 27 programs presented, all received full accreditation. Programs such as ND Mechatronics Engineering Technology, HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, and ND Public Administration were among the accredited courses.

He attributed these milestones to the immense support provided by the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and his successor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, commending their investment in the state’s education sector.

Professor Ogbo also charged the matriculating students to prioritize academic excellence and actively contribute to maintaining peace on campus. “Report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. Security and discipline are vital to your success here,” he urged.
