The House of Representatives Committee on University Education has withheld approval for the 2025 budget of Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State, and other institutions whose Vice Chancellors failed to appear for budget defence at the National Assembly.
The Positive Voice gathered that during the session, the committee, led by Hon. Abubakar Hassan Fulata, expressed displeasure over Federal University Gusau’s refusal to engage with legislative oversight. It was revealed that the university blocked oversight visits, ignored correspondence on previous budget performances, and failed to participate in the 2025 budget defence.
The committee also cautioned universities against non-compliance with federal character principles in staff recruitment and appointments. They further warned against unauthorized use of internally generated revenue, describing it as a violation of constitutional provisions.
