Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, will award degrees to 16,446 students during its 29th convocation ceremony on March 28 and 29. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Babatola Ayodele, announced this during a press briefing in Ado Ekiti on Monday.
According to Ayodele, 15,981 students will receive first degrees, while 465 will be awarded higher degrees. He added that honorary doctorate degrees would be given to Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Industry, Dr. Mansur Muhtar.
Speaking on admissions, the Vice Chancellor said only 9,000 out of over 29,000 applicants were offered admission in the last admission exercise, making up just 31 percent of candidates. He linked the university’s increasing demand to its improved ranking, noting that Times Higher Education recently named EKSU the best state university in Nigeria.
Ayodele also spoke about disciplinary actions taken by the school, stating that one staff member was dismissed for sexual misconduct, while three others lost their jobs for abandoning their duties. He said three staff members were barred from holding leadership positions for three years, nine had their appointments terminated, and 21 received warnings for various offenses.
